Fort Gibson

Oklahoma Historical Site

Fort Gibson, originally built on this site in 1824.

I went to Ft. Gibson with my family this weekend for an outing. This is the site of an old fort built in 1824. I was unaware there was a National Cemetery there also.

When I was just a kid my parents and I visited this fort. My Dad donated a rifle to the museum, that was 60 years ago. My Dad called the rifle a needle gun, it was very long, longer than I was tall. For years I have wondered if that rifle was still there. So we went to have fun, learn, and take pictures. I think I found the gun in a case in the museum, it is so tall it almost reaches the top of the display. (FILE 40/57)

The trip was great fun, and I saw more than I thought I would. This is a great place to spend a day looking at the old fort, museum, old buildings, and the National Cemetery.
